Surround yourself with fresh coastal air, superb scenery and unspoilt beaches, home to the dolphins
All of this within 20 minutes of our retreat but seemingly many miles away from busy, fast track urban living
Woodside Lodge is a timber clad, detached building situated in picturesque Cenarth, on the border of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. It therefore has excellent links to all areas.
The village is a superb setting with its waterfalls and salmon leaps on the River Teifi; well situated to tour this excellent part of West Wales. Cenarth has riverside walking and fishing and two charming neighbouring market towns that offer some small supermarkets, independent delicatessens and food outlets and boutique shopping. Cenarth is also home to the Coracle Museum - a Coracle is a small single person fishing craft made of willow and canvas. The village has 2 pubs, cafes and gift shops and a petrol station.
The area’s best beaches at Poppit Sands, Tresaith, Mwnt, Aberporth and Penbryn are very close by at 10-12 miles distance. Pastel painted, picture postcard Tenby with its Georgian townscape and excellent beaches is 40 minutes to the south. Charming coastal villages abound and local countryside or beach view pubs are close by too.
Woodside Lodge is situated within Penlan Holiday Village - a beautiful wooded area of 24 acres. We have a seasonal on-site external swimming pool free for guests to use, as well as a coffee lounge with pool table. The wooden lodges are randomly and spaciously arranged within the woodland setting amongst the birds and much wildlife. We feel that our lodge is the best on the site.
The lodge can sleep 6 people in 3 bedrooms - 2 doubles and a bunk room. We have a large, open plan living / dining room with two 3 seater sofas and an armchair, freeview tv, CD player, HiFi with auxiliary input, plenty of games and books for guests to use.
Our kitchen has an induction hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, toaster, hand mixer, cafetiere, good utensils and a selection of spices.
The dining area has table seating for 6. The shower room has a shower, wc and washbasin.
The open plan living links to a galley kitchen. The external covered deck has lighting for evening use - spend time here dining, reading, snoozing. The second double bedroom overlooks the woodland to the rear.
Woodside Lodge is electrically heated (including a flame effect electric fire) which is credited by online purchase. Pillows and duvets are provided in all bedrooms, bed linen can be hired for a small fee.
We have a fairy light lit covered deck area which is superb for airy, external relaxing with a bench table and some chairs. The rear area also has seating set within the woodland and a chiminea. This is great for warm or cool evenings with a glass of wine and the fire on.
The external space adjacent to the lodge is available for guests to use. There is a large external children's activity centre with slides, swings, and a climbing frame. An enormous recreation field for ball sports and a new crazy golf circuit is planned for 2022. We have one parking space adjacent to the lodge - additional parking is available close by. There is a dog walking field within the site.
No smoking sorry.
There is so much to see, explore and enjoy. Those listed below are our favourites but we are sure you will find so much more.

So many excellent walks whether you want a riverside ramble, a beach wander or an invigorating hike over rugged coastal paths - it's all here.
Look for otters and salmon alongside the Cenarth waterfalls or there is a beautiful wooded, slate gorge to enjoy at Cilgerran.

There are superb coastal walks at Tresaith, Gwbert and Llangrannog.
The Heritage Coastal Path links all of the west Wales coastline and provides superb and varied walking opportunities for all age groups.

Again there are so many to see and enjoy. Incredible blue flag and National Trust beaches, Many are within 20 minutes of Woodside Lodge.
The variety is great too - sand dunes and an enormous expanse of beach at Poppit Sands, walk through the woods to get to a mile long, unspoilt beach at Penbryn. Unpopulated coves at Gwbert and great surf and a spectacular rocky backdrop at Llangrannog.

Enjoy a lunch overlooking the beach at Tresaith or views of the river activity at St Dogmaels
Mwnt speaks for itself as possibly one of Wales’ most picturesque beaches.

Close by are the C13 Cilgerran Castle ruins, a benedictine abbey at St Dogmaels and Strata Florida - a grand medieval abbey ruin once home to Cistercian monks.
The Welsh Wildlife Centre near Cardigan sits on a nature reserve on the Teifi marshes.
Cardigan Castle is a superb renovation project lauded by Griff Rhys Jones.

At Castell Henllys there sits iron age roundhouses and the great historic Cathedral structure reaching back 14 centuries and home to Wales’ patron Saint, at St Davids.
You will find regular Dylan Thomas trails too, he seemed to wander around a few pubs this way!

Choose what suits you best. Look at our map section for links to where these are, and more details. Our favourite is our closest - The great Nag’s Head just down the road at Boncath. Really good food, local ales and superb staff, The garden and playground sits alongside the River.
There are many pubs that overlook the sea or river - The Ferry Inn and Teifi Waterside at St Dogmaels and the Cliff Hotel at Gwbert are all really good. The Ship Inns at Tresaith and Llangrannog are almost close enough to jump into the water from the deck!

Pizza Tipi in Cardigan sits in a riverside courtyard under Tipis, with log fires and stone baked pizzas.
Yasmin’s Indian Restaurant and takeaway was voted best in Wales and is in Newcastle Emlyn - I’m not sure we’ve ever been to the Lodge without going here!
Crwst at Cardigan is excellent for brunch with gorgeous welsh deli food to purchase too.
Don’t leave the area without visiting Caws Cenarth, watch and taste the cheese making. Perl Las and Perl Wen cheeses are outstanding.

Apart from the fabulous beaches there are many other attractions for the kids.
Folly Farm has an adventure park and zoo and an outside play centre to see the penguins, feed the goats and see rhinos and lions.
Cardigan Island Farm Park is a well liked park with ponies and donkeys, llamas and a play area.

The dolphin watching boat trips are great and so many people are so surprised that you can see dolphins in Wales.
Oakwood is Wales’ largest theme park.
We dare you to try and drag the children off the beaches though.
The map below is interactive and shows more information and weblinks to our favourite local places. Find a spot for brunch, a coastal walk, a play on the beach or to have a good beer!

We had pizza on the beach, we loved playing in the park.
Great week... spent lots of time on the coast watching dolphins, porpoise and seals
Just one rainy day and one very foggy one, but we made the most of it. Had a great time, love the area and prefer it to Pembrokeshire, far less commercialised and beautiful. Very lucky to see dolphins, harbour porpoises, seals and a pup as well as loads of birds. I was lucky enough to get loads of pictures of most of what we saw - so I have proof!
Kitchen was very well equipped which was much appreciated. Loved the bird feeding and the quiet.
Ahh what a comfortable stay, people are so nice around here, super friendly staff on site. Loved dancing to all the CDs - great selection!
What a cosy lodge, beds are so comfy and we love the fact that we can see the trees peeping through the top windows. Looking forward to coming back. The bag of salad from the Italian lady's garden is really delicious

Hi Paul - we love it here! We landed last night and slept really well. It's so quiet! Your lodge is fab, really cosy, and with everything we need. Great CD and games selection too!
We went to Newquay - lovely but much too steep for my Mum. Visited Cenarth Falls OMG they are breathtaking. Mainly just chilled n relaxed n played outdoor games in the peaceful surroundings. Thank you once again for letting us stay in your fab lodge.
Thank you - we surfed, went crabbing and enjoyed the lovely beaches. The highlight was probably seeing lots of dolphins on a boat trip from Newquay - even jumping out and flipping for us!
We had a great stay and the lodge was perfect. Thanks for a great, homely lodge. Thanks for all the info on the different beaches. We had a great time exploring, spotting dolphins on two occasions.
We had a fantastic week staying in your lovely comfortable lodge. It's a fantastic well-equipped property with plenty of room. The location was perfect and extremely peaceful. The view of the stars at night was amazingly clear. The pool was great and the kids spent a good few hours in there. The local area was lovely, we enjoyed visiting a lot of Wales.
We had a fantastic time, thank you. We even had nice weather which was a bonus. The hardest thing was to choose which beach to go to! Decided on Mwnt in the end which was lovely and not too busy…. I spent a lot of time sat on the balcony just enjoying the peace, and seeing how many new molehills appeared.
Everything works beautifully and was home from home, we loved it. We spent much of our time within an hours drive and visited Mwnt and other National Trust places. All the places we saw were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Superb, well equipped lodge in a beautiful part of the world we really enjoyed our stay.
We loved our stay at Woodside Lodge, we needed peace and to step off the world and return to nature - that’s exactly what we got. The lodge is perfect and our two sons thought it was wonderful, especially the view of the trees through the large windows at the top of each room. The games, music, books, bucket and spades were great and we made use of all of these. The local area is gorgeous without too many tourists. We will definitely be back.
The lodge was perfect, had everything we needed. The selection of games kept both the children and adults entertained. Great location. Cannot fault it. Highly recommended.
